What to Expect at Your Newborn Session

Your session may include family, sibling, and newborn portraits, depending on the package you've booked. We'll begin with family and sibling photographs before moving on to the newborn portion of the session.

A Note for Parents

During the newborn portion of the session, I kindly ask parents to relax in the designated seating area while I work with your baby. If your little one needs a feed, cuddle, or comfort break at any stage, they will be handed straight back to you.

Over the years, I've found that babies can often smell, hear, or sense Mum and Dad nearby, making them more eager for cuddles or feeds. Giving them a little space during posing often helps them settle more comfortably and allows me to work safely and efficiently.

My approach is based on years of experience photographing newborns in Bunbury and is designed to create the best possible experience for both baby and parents. If you have any concerns about this process, please let me know before your session so we can discuss whether my style of newborn photography is the right fit for your family.

Feeding & Comfort

If you are bottle feeding, please bring enough bottles for the duration of your session.

I also highly recommend bringing a dummy, even if your baby doesn't usually take one. Dummies can be incredibly helpful for soothing and settling during transitions between poses and setups.

Studio Environment

The studio is kept warm (approximately 32°C / 90°F) to ensure your baby remains comfortable throughout the session, particularly during wrapped and lightly clothed poses.

As a result, I recommend dressing in light, comfortable clothing.

Sessions can take up to 90 minutes, so feel free to bring:

  • A drink

  • Snacks

  • A book or magazine

  • Your phone or tablet

Many parents enjoy using this time to relax while I gently photograph their little one.

Session Expectations

My goal during your session is to achieve two beautiful newborn setups. Anything beyond that is considered a wonderful bonus and will depend entirely on your baby's comfort and cooperation on the day.

Your proof gallery will include a minimum of 25 carefully selected images to choose from, with any additional images being a lovely surprise.

Props & Styling

I have a beautiful collection of wraps, blankets, headbands, bonnets, and props available for your session.

I generally begin with one of my wraps, as swaddling helps most babies feel secure, calm, and settled. Even if you feel your baby doesn't enjoy being wrapped at home, I will usually try this option first as it often works surprisingly well during newborn sessions.

Every baby is different, and I will always work at your baby's pace to ensure their comfort and safety.

I can't wait to capture these precious early memories for your family 🤍
