A Bunbury Engagement Session with a Sweet Surprise (and a Very Good Dog)

Every session has its own story, but this one had a plot twist I didn't see coming. What started as a relaxed Bunbury engagement session for this gorgeous couple turned into something even more special — a pregnancy announcement, captured right there in the same shoot, with their dog along for every moment of it.

They'd booked in for classic engagement photos: golden light, easy laughter, that unmistakable glow of two people who can't stop smiling at each other. Their four-legged family member came along too, and honestly, some of my favourite frames from the whole session are of the dog weaving between their legs or flopped happily at their feet. Then, part way through, they let me in on their secret: they were expecting. We shifted gears on the spot, working in a few gentle, joy-filled frames announcing the news — hands resting together, a tiny onesie, a look between the two of them that said it all. It's one of my favourite kinds of moments to photograph, because the emotion is completely real and completely unscripted.

Why This Session Worked So Well

It captured more than one milestone. Engagement, family pet, and a pregnancy announcement all rolled into one relaxed Bunbury shoot. You don't need to book three separate sessions to capture every chapter of your story — often they overlap, and I love being there for it when they do.

It was relaxed, not rehearsed. Some of the best photos from the day were the ones nobody planned: the dog stealing attention mid-pose, the surprised laugh when the pregnancy news slipped out, the quiet hug straight after. Bunbury's parks and coastline give us the space to let moments like that happen naturally.
