Newborn Photos Preparation Bunbury Family Newborn SessionLearn how to prepare for your newborn photography session in Bunbury, including what to wear, what to bring and helpful tips
One of the most common questions I receive as a Newborn Photographer in Bunbury is, "How do we prepare for our newborn photography session?"
The good news is that preparing for your newborn session is much easier than most parents expect. My goal is to make the experience as relaxed and stress-free as possible so you can focus on enjoying these precious early days with your baby.

The first step in preparing for newborn photography is booking while you're still expecting.
Newborns are ideally photographed between 5–14 days old, so reserving your due date during pregnancy helps ensure availability and gives you one less thing to think about once baby arrives.
Simple, neutral clothing photographs beautifully and helps keep the focus on your family connection.
I recommend:
Neutral colours such as cream, beige, white, grey, or soft pastels
Comfortable clothing that allows you to cuddle your baby naturally
Avoiding large logos, bright colours, and busy patterns
Timeless clothing helps create photographs you'll love for years to come.

For your newborn photography session, I recommend bringing:
Extra nappies
Bottles if bottle feeding
Extra feeds if needed
A dummy (even if baby doesn't normally use one)
Any sentimental items you'd like included
I have a beautiful selection of wraps, blankets, headbands, bonnets, and props available for use during your session.

If siblings are joining the session, it's helpful to talk to them beforehand and explain that they'll be having their photo taken with their new baby brother or sister.
Family and sibling photos are usually completed first, allowing younger children to relax once their portraits are finished.
One of the biggest worries for parents is whether their baby will sleep.
While sleepy newborn photos are beautiful, awake babies can create equally meaningful images full of personality and connection.
Every newborn session is baby-led, allowing plenty of time for:
Feeding
Settling
Nappy changes
Comfort breaks
Cuddles
Your baby's comfort will always come first.
The studio is kept warm and comfortable for your newborn, so I recommend dressing lightly.
Many parents use the session as an opportunity to sit back, relax, and enjoy watching their baby's first professional portraits being created.
There is no pressure for your baby to perform or behave a certain way. Every newborn is unique, and every session unfolds differently.
At Carien Lee Photography, I specialise in newborn photography for families across Bunbury, Dalyellup, Australind, Eaton, Busselton and surrounding South West WA areas.
If you're expecting and would like to secure your due date, I'd love to help you prepare for a relaxed and memorable newborn photography experience.
