One of the most common questions I receive as a Newborn Photographer in Bunbury is:

"Have I missed the newborn stage if my baby is already a few weeks old?"

The short answer is absolutely not.

While newborn photography is often recommended when babies are between 5–14 days old, beautiful newborn images can still be created well after this period. At Carien Lee Photography, I regularly photograph babies up to around 5 weeks of age.

Why Is 5–14 Days Often Recommended?

During the first two weeks, babies are typically:

• Sleepier

• More settled

• Naturally curled from the womb

• Easier to gently pose

This is why many photographers recommend booking during this timeframe.

However, every baby is different, and many families don't realise how quickly those first weeks pass while adjusting to life with a newborn.

What Happens After 2–4 Weeks?

As babies grow, they become:

• More alert

• More expressive

• More interested in their surroundings

• Stronger and more active

While some traditional newborn poses may become less suitable, older newborn sessions often produce beautiful eye contact, natural expressions, and meaningful family connections.

What Style of Photos Can You Expect?

For babies aged 2–5 weeks, I focus on:

• Natural newborn portraits

• Family connection images

• Parent and baby moments

• Sibling photographs

• Wrapped newborn poses where appropriate

These sessions often tell a more complete story of your growing family.

Is It Too Late to Book?

Not at all.

If your baby is already a few weeks old, I encourage you to still reach out. Every stage of your baby's development is worth documenting, and beautiful images can be created whether your newborn is 10 days old or 5 weeks old.

The most important thing isn't achieving a specific pose—it's preserving memories you'll treasure for years to come.
